PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management)

The Post-Graduation Diploma in Management (PGDM) is a two – year full time program approved by AICTE (All India council of Technical Education), Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India. It also approved by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as equivalent to MBA. The program offers twin specialization i.e. fundamental and knockout specilisation. The program aims to train the students to become excellent managers and high‐level decision‐makers with broad strategic vision. The course enjoys a two‐tier structure. The first year is committed to developing business fundamentals through fundamental specilisation and the second year offers the knockout specilisation. The program consists of a core curriculum, a summer internship (compulsory industry training between first and second year) and elective courses (optional courses in the second year). The core curriculum of PGDM develops essential skills and knowledge in the areas of Marketing, Finance, HR and IT. After successfully completing the first year requirements, the students undertake summer training of up to eight weeks at managerial level. Students analyse and offer solutions to specific managerial problems under the guidance of a faculty member as well as a manager in the host company. Second year students structure their studies to suit their aptitude and interest. They can choose one specilisation from area specific course and one from area agnostic course.

The Financial sector, more specifically, Banking Sector has become very vibrant after implementation of new economic policy and introduction of financial sector reforms by the Government/Reserve Bank Of India.     Course Overview
    During the last two decades the world has witnessed a sea change in the international trade practices, processes and behavior. Liberalization has opened new horizons of international trade for its huge potential market and has also opened vistas of foreign markets for its diversified product line. Though India’s foreign trade constitutes only 1% of the total world trade, the volume and diversity is significant.
    In 1991 when the new economic policy was introduced India’s export was merely $ 18 billion which surged to about $ 200 billion by the year 2013.According to an estimate, 45% of the GDP is due to export and import. India’s total share in goods and services trade was 0.92% in 2003 which increased up to 1.64% in 2013. Studies have revealed that nearly 14 million jobs were created directly or indirectly as a result of augmented exports in the last five years (i.e. from 2010 to 2015).
    Also the EXIM (Export Import) policy provides for an export growth of 15% thereby increasing the share of world trade to 1.5% from the existing 1%.For achieving this objective, the Government has strengthened the foreign trade policy and set up Export Processing Zones (EPZ), Special Economic Zones (SEZ), dry ports for facilitating export and imports, exemptions of duty and other measures. Thus, international trade and business have tremendous scope in terms of employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in India.
    One needs to perform the following activities while working as an international business manager:
    Be familiar with and understand consumer markets in order to find the business scenario globally
    Identify the new corridor of export/import and help in negotiating trade agreements or contracts
    Understand a country’s trade regulations, that is, import/export, foreign currency, transport

    The PGDM (International Business) is area specific course of IMS Noida which is one of a kind in the country. The six tri-semester course is for developing the skilled managers by equipping them with the nuances of general management along with special focus given towards international business.
